Valentine’s Day City Break with Kids

Just because you’re struggling to arrange childcare, or can’t bear the thought of leaving your little ones behind, it doesn’t mean you aren’t able to enjoy a Valentine's Day UK break.

Not all getaways need to be about candlelit dinners or romantic strolls under the stars, so why not take a look at some of the UK’s best cities as you plan a trip with a perfect balance of Cupid and the kids.

All you need is love on Valentine’s Day, and there’s plenty to go around in the home of the Beatles. Learn about Liverpool’s Fab Four at The Beatles Story, a museum tribute to the band situated on the historic Albert Dock, or hop on-board the Magical Mystery Tour and discover iconic Beatles spots including Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. Afterwards, you can head to the world-renowned Cavern Club, where under 18s can stay until 8pm, and enjoy live music throughout the day.

If your kids are the centre of your universe, take them on a journey across the galaxy with a trip to Liverpool’s Spaceport. Make your way through themed galleries packed with interactive exhibits, as you and your children get hands-on with experiments in gravity and the speed of light. Don’t miss the planetarium – stargazing is timeless, romantic, and great fun for the whole family!

End your family day out with a memorable meal at Mulholland, a singing diner with an American-themed menu. From movie soundtracks to power ballads and Disney classics, bring a little Broadway to your Valentine’s Day this year.

When it’s time for bed, head back to the Novotel Liverpool Centre Hotel, which sits in an excellent central location just a few hundred metres from both Mulholland and Liverpool Central station.

The National Railway Museum is a fantastic opportunity to add to your family photo collection, whether you catch a shot with your loved ones riding the miniature railway or learning about steam engines and locomotives.

If you want to try something a little different, test your problem-solving skills and coolness under pressure at Gr8escape York, a live escape room experience which is suitable for children aged nine and up. Afterwards, why not head to York Dungeon and put your newfound escape skills into practice?

You’ll find the Novotel York Centre Hotel just half a mile from the dungeon. Guests are welcome to drink and dine in the on-site bar and restaurant, or relax and unwind in the heated indoor pool.

Is that Cupid, or Robin Hood drawing back his bow? Check out Nottingham’s interactive Robin Hood Experience, see the bronze statues of Robin Hood and his merry men at Nottingham Castle, and of course, head into Sherwood Forest for a great family adventure. Retrace the steps of the man who stole from the rich to give to the poor while you create your own memories and tales with your merry little ones.

For a family-friendly take on a traditionally romantic activity, head to the National Ice Centre. Skate around the ice together with your partner, while your kids zip around the rink on their penguin-shaped skate aids.

When you’re all tired from a fun-filled day in Nottingham, make your way back to the Novotel Nottingham Derby Hotel for a cosy night’s sleep.
