Tips for Visiting the Van Gogh Museum

No cultural tour of Amsterdam would be complete without a trip to the iconic Van Gogh Museum.

To help ensure your visit runs smoothly, we’ve put together this guide for visiting the museum, including ticket information, tips for making the most of your time, and recommendations for the best hotels nearby.

Buying tickets to the Van Gogh Museum
The adult admission fee is €19, while under 18’s and museum card holders can visit for free.

The museum asks that you reserve a ticket and an entrance time online before your visit – doing so will help cut down the time you spend waiting in line and means you can plan the rest of the day’s activities around your slot.
Getting there
The Van Gogh Museum is conveniently located at Amsterdam’s Museumplein, which is one of the city’s most popular tourist neighborhoods and also home to Vondelpark, the Stedelijk Museum, and The Heineken Experience!

It’s easy to get there by car, coach, or public transport, though we recommend you hire a bike and cycle there to get into the swing of the city.
Opening Hours
The museum is open from 9am to 7pm in summer and during the Christmas period, from 9am to 6pm in September and October, and from 9am to 5pm throughout November and early December.

Average visiting time is one to two hours – make sure you give yourself plenty of time to explore the museum’s permanent collection.

Tip: visit the Van Gogh Museum between 9am and 11am, or after 3pm to miss the bulk of the crowds.
