Wellbeing and longevity for life and the ocean

Novotel is proud partner with WWF, to champion the protection and restoration of the world's oceans, through science-based action and conservation projects.
Because a longer, healthier life depends on a planet that can sustain it.

The ocean impacts everything. Novotel can positively impact the ocean.

The oceans are the world’s biggest carbon sink and greatest source of planetary balance, which regulates the climate and protects habitats and wildlife.

As part of Novotel’s commitment to stay in balance with life and nature, we have chosen to partner with WWF to act for the preservation of the oceans. WWF France will provide technical expertise to Novotel, helping its 600 hotels worldwide to have a positive impact on the ocean, challenging and guiding the brand and its properties throughout many aspects of its operations, such as advancing our sustainable seafood policies, raising awareness of the importance of the world’s oceans, advocating for ocean preservation and supporting conservation projects.

Rooted in three of the United Nations’ priority ocean-related actions

The three-year action plan of Novotel will aim at reducing marine pollution & ocean acidification, particularly from land-based activities; fighting overfishing and promoting sustainable fishing models; and increasing scientific knowledge, research and technology for ocean health. Mapped against these priorities, Novotel and WWF will determine short and long-term initiatives across four pillars which form Novotel’s Positive Impact Plan.

  • Reducing Impact

    • 73% of Novotel hotels are eco-certified or in the process of being certified by Green Key, Green Globe, or an approved local external certification body
    • 92% of hotels compliant with Accor’s single-use plastic policy
  • Delicious, Healthier and More Eco-Responsible Food Choices

    • 50% of Novotel hotels offer menus with at least 25% plant-powered dishes
    • 41% of hotels have banned 350 endangered marine species from menus
  • Strengthening Ocean Education and Awareness

    • 2 new educational games developed with WWF for children and families
    • 1,600+ hotel chefs trained in sustainable seafood
    • 3,200+ Heartists completed ocean awareness training
  • Contributing to Research and Innovation

    • Support for five essential conservation projects led by WWF around the world

Novotel is funding five essential WWF France conservation projects around the world, investing to support ocean impact, research and action through critical projects in in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas

  • The protection of Posidonia

An endemic flowering plant of the Mediterranean which plays a key role as a carbon sink. 41 low-impact mooring buoys were installed in 2025 to help protect these fragile ecosystems.

  • The identification and removal of “ghost gears”

Lost, abandoned and otherwise discarded fishing gears - the deadliest form of marine plastic waste. In 2025, 14 harmful fishing nets were successfully removed from the Mediterranean seabed.

  • Tracking and protecting marine turtles in Asia-Pacific and Western Atlantic

Gathering knowledge on their movements from nesting beaches to migratory corridors and foraging grounds, strengthening regional cooperation and combating illegal fishing. 14 youth ambassadors have already been trained to support marine turtle protection locally.

  • Supporting the WWF France’s Blue Panda boat

Which sails across the Mediterranean carrying out work including scientific dives, protecting endangered species and introducing the public to the Mediterranean conservation challenges. In 2025, it hosted over 250 participants during the UN Ocean Conference in Nice.

Why support the Ocean?

The ocean’s health is vital to us all. It is the source of longevity for our planet.

If we manage it properly, the ocean can help keep our climate in balance, feed a growing population, support economic development, and protect habitats and treasured wildlife. But this is far from the reality today.
